From bubble baths to face masks, Instagram and Facebook are great spaces for motivational posts about #selfcare. However, not all self-care looks the same for everyone; and it certainly isn't just snapping a photo of your legs in a tub!
Here are 7 "unconventional" and simple ways you can take care of yourself before the start of a busy week. Instagram-worthy or not.
1. Take 5 minutes out of your day to be still and breathe. Inhale to the count of 5, hold for 2 seconds and exhale to the count of 10.
2. Cuddle with a pet. Studies show that hanging out with a pet can reduce offer people a deep sense of ontological security—that is, the feeling of stability, continuity, and meaning in life. Purrfect.
3. Get hydrated. Try to drink 8 glasses a day; set a timer to make sure you're getting enough. Proper hydration helps keep you sharp and fuels your body for all it does for you throughout the day.
4. Separate from your phone. We are constantly exposed to images of "ideal" bodies and lifestyles; it can make us feel more isolated (ironically).
5. Eat something that nourishes you. Throw some extra veggies into your meal.
6. Feeing anxious? Write your thoughts down. Make a list of your to-dos.
7. Do some meal prep. Having a plan helps you stay on track and make good, healthy choices.
Self-care doesn't have to be complicated. It also doesn't have to be aesthetic. Sometimes the best thing that you can do for yourself is just slowing down and being present in the moment
